CMDI has provided support to the Dodoma Christian Medical Center through supplies, dispensary and water system work.

Dodoma Christian Medical Centre (DCMC) is a medical and dental clinic serving the poor in Tanzania's Dodoma region. They are raising money to build a new 150 bed hospital offering services not found elsewhere in the region. For more information go to www.dthd.org whose mission is stated as follows: Sharing God's gifts to bring health and hope to the people of Central Tanzania.

Tractors and Farm Equipment PDF Print E-mail

Mandi TractorCMDI’s Bliss and Smith have been involved (along with our friend Karl Gingrich) in the grandly titled informal organization “Tractors for Tanzania” since 2001.  Karl has been the primary driver of TFT, coordinating, finding and buying equipment, investing his own money and time, with CMDI acting in a supporting role.

The original project was for congregations of the Central Conference, Northwestern Ohio Synod (ELCA – Lutheran churches) to purchase a tractor for parishes of a mission district in the Dodoma region of Tanzania.  This was concluded successfully with the purchase and equipment of a 45-hp Massey-Ferguson model that is still in service today although it has had an interesting service history.

Water is crucial to development and health in an economy.  Tanzania has a wide range of water supply conditions, however large areas are in water stress.  Also, “easy” sources such as rivers are frequently overtaxed for water supply, both potable and irrigation.  This is even affecting environmental heritage sites such as Ruaha National Park in central Tanzania.
